This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn’t need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It’s not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it’s the type of interaction people have. They’re content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

Something I see mentioned often is “I don’t have many followers, my reblog won’t matter” which is untrue.

First of all, reblogging, commenting and interacting is how you start gathering your own micro community, second of all— you literally do not know how far a single reblog from you could go in the long run.

For instance, let’s say you only have one person reblog from you, and that person only have one person who reblogged from them also, and so on, and somewhere ten reblogs down the line a very large blog reblogs it and boom, the post is getting more and more exposure!

You see, it does not matter if you don’t have a large following so long as you cultivate a micro community with the people you do enjoy interacting daily with.

As you can see in the second picture I added, most of the reblogs were between very small groups of people, and occasionally it’ll lapse into a large blog that would create a bigger reblog pool. BUT STILL. Saying that you don’t have many followers and so it doesn’t matter if you don’t reblog is UNTRUE.

Even if someone just randomly wanders into your blog one day, it’s beneficial for both sides because A. Seeing you reblog content they like might be enough for them to follow you B. They would be exposed to new content creators they didn’t know previously and might also follow / reblog from them!

So yes, do not underestimate what your reblogs and words mean, just because you’re not ‘big’ or whatever. It is not how tumblr works!!

P.S IT IS NOT CRINGE TO REBLOG 10 YEARS OLD CONTENT ON TUMBLR. YOU SEE IT. YOU LIKE IT? REBLOG IT. DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU DIG IT FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL ITSELF. XOXO :’D <3

You don’t know true confused horror until a four year old that looks like the ghost of a Victorian child turns to you and with no prompting says “You’re not dead…”

AU where Lila changes based on other people's perceptions of her. (Ex: You worry she was hitting on your crush? Well, now she is! You mistake her for someone else? Whoops, now she is that person!) In order to combat this, Lila comes up with lies that make her seem like a talented and kind person that everyone wants to be friends with, so that she may be a talented and kind person that everyone wants to be friends with. This ends up backfiring terribly, since Marinette starts thinking of her as 'the evil liar who wants nothing more than to destroy my life.'

Her mom should be holding her amok. She wanted the perfected child who conformed to the will of others in order to help her.

Ah, but which mom? (Does she have so many moms because someone starts to see her like a daughter and then she is) Currently liking the idea of Tomoe Tsurugi because of the parallel you get between hates-lies-Kagami and depends-on-your-perception-of-her-Lila

Honestly it would be hilarious if Tomoe Tsurugi and Lila’s mom were exes but Lila’s mom got custody of Lila and Tomoe kept custody of her amok.

You are so right. Unfortunately, I can’t help but feel that Lila’s amok has been lost to time (buried with the parent who died without her knowledge leaving her in a scenario where she cannot properly take control of herself) (at least for the story currently sitting in my head)

Ooh, that could be dark but what is the implication of Felix having the Peacock miraculous? Can peacock’s take control of another peacock’s sentimonster without the sentimonster’s amok? What about Mayura? How would this all work?

Going with the sentibug approach, the peacock miraculous allows someone to destroy a sentimonster, but the amok is required to control them. Going with the idea that it allows them to sense amoks over the sentimonster also provides a way for Lila to fly under the radar. As for how it works? Very badly. Lila is not having a good time.

Oof, does anyone ever find out that Lila is a sentimonster?

Hey @staff. This is a perfect example of why collapsed reblogs is such a bad idea. Seeing the full thread, you go like this:

😮 ooh, that’s cool
😀 “they’re free,” hehe!
🤣 “16 cents,” perfection!!

I have achieved joy, I feel positive feelings toward Tumblr, I want to engage, I want to stay, my eyeballs land on more ads, you make more money, everyone wins! 🎉

Seeing the collapsed thread, you go like this:

😮 ooh, that’s cool
😐 “16 cents”? yes, that’s literally what the pic shows, not sure why you felt the need to say that

There is no motivation for me to uncollapse the reblog chain—it looks like a boring conversation about the denominations of coins. And even if I do uncollapse it, you’ve ruined the joke by showing me the punchline before the setup. I am sad, Tumblr is boring, I go elsewhere to entertain myself, I see less ads, you make less money, everyone loses. 😥

Reblog chains are the best thing about Tumblr. They are your unique super power. They are the thing that makes people screenshot Tumblr and share it around. Why on earth would you kneecap them??

I don’t know exactly how you plan to implement this. Give people the option to keep them collapsed if there truly are people who are annoyed by how long they can get (you already have a version of this feature), but don’t collapse them for everyone or new users by default. Please. It will make Tumblr so much more boring.

i hate the “on average a user only sees 25 posts per session so they have to be good and varied” bullshit on that staff post. if i open tumblr and the 25 posts i see are nothing but a single mutual mass reblogging their favourite thing that i couldn’t care less about. well. that’s what i enjoy

If my beloved mutual needed to reblog a thing 25 times then by all things sacred I am going to read it once and then scroll past it 24 times as they intended me to!
